Head into North Canterbury and take a step into the past by boarding the historical trains of The Weka Pass Railway. The train will take you across flat farmland and passes a large irrigation reservoir and vineyards, before climbing grades as steep as 1:50 ( 2%) as it winds through the cuttings in the Pass. Where the surrounding limestone rocks have weathered into unusual shapes. Most notable are Frog Rock and Seal Rock, in the middle of the Weka Pass.
Then head Weka Pass Historic Reserve was officially established in 1969. The main feature of Weka Pass Historic Reserve, North Canterbury, is a large limestone overhang shelter, containing examples of rock art. A floor to ceiling fence protects the drawings from vandals. A walkway crossing farmland takes you to the rock art site - 40 minutes walking each way.
Transport to and from Weka Pass Railway and Waikari and tickets to board the train.

Trains operate on the first and third Sundays of each month, and on selected public and school holidays, early bookings are essential. Christchurch Shuttles & Tours operate alongside third-party operators and all tours are subject to availability. The walkway crosses private farmland and is closed during lambing 1st August to 1st October.
